Who are the Older Adults?

There is no general agreement on the age at which a person becomes old.  Often discrepancies exist as to what age people are to be considered old.

Old age has a dual definition.  It can be defined as the last stage in the life processes of an individual, and/or an age group or gene ration comprising a segment of the oldest members of a population.

HelpAge Mission

HelpAge aims to work on projects to unravel the present understanding of old age and to bring fundamental changes in older people’s lives.

HelpAge strives to help older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination, overcome poverty, work on social isolation, loneliness, promote sacred dignity and respect for older people. The aim is to achieve fundamental changes in the lives of older people empowering them to live life to the full.

Reaching Out

Amongst the many difficulties experienced by older people, loneliness is a “hidden killer” of elderly people. While people are aware of the emotional problems of loneliness, few recognise the physical and psychological damage associated with loneliness. Elderly people trapped in their own homes by a lack of mobility and the loss of family and friends lack opportunities for social interaction. The problem of loneliness and isolation need to be put on an equal footing with any other condition associated with ageing.

For this reason, HelpAge offers various services and project through:

Social Clubs
